JR & TWA on 5 Alive

We find Ray Walters @ his Pacific Records office
going over some endorsement contracts. His secretary
informs him over the intercom that he has a phone call
from Erin Arithmetic. Ray picks up the phone & says,
"Hey Erin! Got a 35410 Reunion in the works?"
"No Ray." she said, "But how would you like to
have The White Angels guest appear on 5 Alive?"
     "Your only clean show? Awesome."
Erin went on explaining to Ray what's going on.
"David Galaga who plays Alvin Fenway, wants to be
popular with his music. David's been taking guitar &
vibes lessons to be like Joe Roman & Fred Sanders."
"Ben." corrected Ray, "Fred plays marimba."
"Anyway, the band could appear doing a concert &
Ben could meet David. Of course, the girls will have
crushes on Joe & Eric. Why am I telling you all this,
let the fans read this story & have the band fly out
to Hollywood."
To explain, 5 Alive's an Erin Arithmetic show
seen on HTV Fridays @ 7:00 (CST) as part of HTV's
Friday Teen Hangout. The series focuses on the Fenway
family who live @ Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The father's a
minister, mother's a church secretary & they have 5
kids; Nancy (17), Ethel (16), Alvin (15), Teresa (13)
& Olive (9). Since the parents liked the 70's, they
can remember the children's names by saying "Neato".
They also have a pet Siamese cat named Frisky.
Alvin's the only boy & the only child with his
own bedroom. His friend, Jake A. Winters, drives a
motorcycle & considers him an older brother he never
had.
The story begins @ Super Music located in Ivory
Coast Mall (elephant joke). Jake's trying out a
wah-wah pedal playing electric guitar & singing.
Alvin watches him play & when he's done, a girl tells
him he ought to form a band.
"Cool idea." said Jake, "I know 3 dudes & we
could be another Backstreet Boys, except we play
instruments. You in?"
"Yeah," said Alvin, "Let me buy something."
The dudes went to the drums/percussion section.
Alvin bought some green-colored vibe mallets. Then he
tried them out playing the vibes.
"Al, you won't attract babes playing a jazz
instrument. You think you're Ben Sanders?"
Al nodded & smiled while playing.
When they left the mall, Alvin rode behind Jake
driving his motorcycle. They headed for an empty
parking lot. Jake got to let Alvin drive all over the
parking lot with him riding behind.
"This is so cool!" said Alvin driving, "Can't
wait to get my driver's license soon!"
Just then, a squad car arrived @ the scene.
Officer Jones told the boys to stop & switch. Then he
talked to Alvin.
"If your father knew you did this, he would blow
his stack. I'm afraid I'll have to call your parents
about this."
     "Tattlatale." quipped Alvin.
"Yes, I'm just like Bert Convy, a tattletale!"
snapped Officer Jones, "Now leave before I charge you
with trespassing."
That night @ the Fenways' home, the girls were in
the living room doing homework watching ROCK-TV. The
girls stopped what they did when a WA music video came
on.
"Eric Hunter rules!" said Ethel, "Bulging
muscles, super body, awesome drummer!"
"No way, Joe Roman rocks!" said Nancy, "Fine
voice, super guitarist!"
"Frank Brandis is a hottie!" sighed Teresa.
"I kind of like Jason Herkimer." said Olive.
     "Jason!?" said the girls.
"I like tall dudes, even though he's married."
explained Olive.
Alvin arrived home & saw the girls swooning.
"I'll bet Alvin likes Victoria." said Ethel.
"I'm a Ben Sanders fan!" said Alvin as the girls
were laughing @ him.
Up in his bedroom, his dad came in along with
Frisky. He was upset over the Officer Jones call.
"You know, if this was a tv series, it would be
re-named 4 To Adore, not 5 Alive, because you get
grounded a lot! I don't you hanging around that bad
influence, Jake."
"Jake's not a bad influence." reasoned Alvin,
"He's cool, drug free,"
"And spoiled." snapped Dad, "His Dad takes a trip
to Texas, plays a lottery game called Texas Million &
won $1,000,000. He got his son a motorcycle, clothes,
anything his little heart desires."
"Dad, Mr. Winters tried to tithe to your church,
but you called it dirty money." said Alvin as Dad
agreed.
"Alvin, after school, I want you to come to
church. You'll be using a lot of rags & some Fledge
Polish polishing 100 pews. This will teach you to
drive underage." he leaves the bedroom.
Alvin lied on his bed & Frisky came up to him
purring & licking his face.
"You're the only friend I got." sighed Alvin.
     "Meow!" Frisky meowed.
"Frisky, dinner!" called Mom as Frisky went away.
The next afternoon, the girls were crusing down
I-359 coming from school. They were listening to 98.6
(radio pop).
"98.6 in Tuscaloosa (elephant trumpets). Have we
got news for you! The White Angels will give a cool
concert @ 359 arena. And we got tickets for you & 4
friends to attend the concert. That's not all, the
band will pick you up from your house! Be the 35th
caller @ 777-359-2059!"
Ethel, who's driving, pulled to the next exit &
parked @ a gas station. They spotted a pay phone &
called the number (no coins needed for a toll free
call). After a couple of busy signals, Ethel finally
got through.
     "What's your name?"
     "Ethel Fenway."
"Got any plans a few days away? Cancel them
cause you & 4 buddies are going to TWA concert!"
The girls screamed, the gas station attendant saw
them & quipped,
"Those Fenway girls must've got some news from
Uncle Geoff & Aunt Betty."
Ethel stayed on the line as the DJ got more info
>from her.
At the church, Alvin's polishing the back & side
of the pews. He had already done 16 pews up in the
balcony & now was doing the remaining 84. When he
reached 50, he took a break. He got to his backpack,
took out a folder & mallets. Then he went over to the
band area played the vibes Sarah uses. She's a church
musician.
Alvin played an awesome vibes solo, then he
started to sing while playing. His mother looked on &
saw that he's really a talented kid. However, his dad
was upset as he came to him, the music stopped.
"What did I tell you about playing secular music
in the Lord's house? Hand over Sarah's mallets!"
"They're mine, I got a receipt to prove it."
Alvin showed the receipt, but Dad took them anyway.
"Why do you disobey me & keep playing Sarah's
vibes?"
"You & Mom won't allow a drum set & made me take
piano lessons, so the vibes are a keyboard percussion
instrument. Maybe the vibes is my instrument, Ben
Sanders brought it back to life."
"Alvin, get back to work. You're already in
trouble."
"I quit & running away!" said Alvin storming off.
When he left, his mother got after her husband.
"How can you do this to our only son?
Discouraging him & make him feel like Cinderfella!
Alvin's very gifted on the vibes & you burst his
bubble. It's bad enough that he hates Uncle Geoff &
Aunt Betty because they give each girl a special
birthday present & ignoring him."
"Nancy got college tuition, Ethel got a car,
Teresa went to 7 Stripes Atlanta to see Hamson in
concert & Olive got a bicycle, I remember. (Sighs)
Honey, my father, the General, discouraged me from
dong any sports & music in junior high & high school.
He'd give me a paddling if I didn't report home from
school by 1600 hours (4:00 PM) & he'd self-destruct
like the 'Mission: Impossible' messages!"
"So, the General's responsible." said Mom, "I
want you to finish those pews! That'll teach you to
discourage your son."
His mother left as Dad went ahead & polished the
remaining 50 pews!
Saturday afternoon, we find the girls cleaning
the house up, getting things straight. Their mother
was confused.
"Why are you cleaning house when told not to?"
she asked, "You girls would normally watch tv or go
out on Saturdays. Did your Dad threaten you?"
"No," explained Nancy, "We're straightening up
because Ethel won tickets to see TWA in concert. And
the band's going to pick us up."
"But they invited 4 others to join Ethel.
Where's Alvin?" asked Teresa, "Alvin would be thrilled
to meet Ben Sanders."
Mom decided to patch things herself. So she went
over to Jake's house without her husband's consent.
At Jake's garage, Alvin's playing a drum solo to
beat his fustrations out while Jake jammed on guitar.
After the song, Alvin spots his mother out on the
carport.
"Mom? Did Dad fetch you to take me home?"
"I came myself." she said, "Alvin, your Dad was
raised strictly by the General. Maybe he overprotects
you the same way the General did to him & that you're
the only boy. I also came to mention that TWA's
coming over to our house. Ethel won a contest. Come
home, Alvin."
Alvin hugged his Mom. As they left, their Dad
arrived in a car. Jake suddenly spots a tree limb
falling.
"Look out!" yelled Jake. Then he ran & tackled
them down to the ground. The tree limb fell hard on
the ground. Jake got hurt a little & Dad was stunned.
"You saved their lives." he said helping Mom &
Alvin up, "I don't know what to say."
"You can accept me for what I am." said Jake's
Dad, coming out of the house. He helped his son get
up & then both dads removed the tree limb & placed it
in the ditch. Then Jake's Dad went back inside & came
out with a briefcase he handed to him.
"Call it even & accept this gift of $100,000.
You can build something new to your church. When I
took that trip to Texas, I had to break a 20 somehow,
so I bought a Texas Million ticket. Maybe it was
meant to be."
So Dad got the briefcase, forgave his family &
then hugged Alvin.
     "Alvin, tomorrow's your birthday, Ethel's got a
birthday gift @ home."
Around 4:00 @ the Fenways, the girls scream when
3 limos pulled on the street. The doorbell rang &
Ethel opened the door. It was the radio DJ.
"Hey Ethel Fenway, here's your prize & tickets to
TWA!"
The band came inside wearing normal clothes.
     "Where's your tuxedoes?" asked Olive.
"In our dressing rooms." said Frank.
The Fenway kids got to go off to the concert
while the parents had a night to themselves.
At 359 Arena, the band's doing soundcheck on
stage with the kids watching them. Nancy watched Joe
play a guitar solo, Terest saw Frank play trumpet,
Olive watched Jason pop a bass solo & Ethel went wild
when Eric played his tympani shirtless. Alvin watched
Ben play the vibes.
"Cool! I play vibes myself." said Alvin. Ben
handed Alvin his mallets & said,
     "Go for it."
Alvin started playing & singing "Twist & Shout".
As he did, Ben joined in playing chimes & Joe, Jason &
Cody joining in. Alvin even played a vibes solo.
When it was done, his sisters & the band were
impressed & cheered Alvin.
That night, the kids got to watch the concert
>from backstage. After the concert, they were chillin
in the dressing room. A photographer took a pic of
each Fenway child with their favorite band member.
Sunday morning @ church, Reverend Fenwick gave an
abbreviated sermon. Afterwards, he said,
"That's our abbreviated message. Before we
dismiss, let's take up the offering. I misjudged Mr.
Winters' actions & has kindly to help out the church
with some funds he won. The reason for the early
dismissal, my only son turns 16 today. The Sunday
evening service, the assistant pastor will act for
me."
"Good!" said an old lady, "You won't burn my
roast today!"
"As we take up the offering, my son Alvin will
come up & play Amazing Grace on the vibes. My son's a
quick learner & Sarah has teached him a few things.
We will also miss Sarah for she's going to Atlanta in
a few weeks. Let's collect the offering."
Alvin came up & Dad handed his green mallets
back.
"The receipt was right." he whispered.
Then as the offering was taken up, Alvin played &
sang the tune.
That afternoon, Dad took him out to bowl to spend
quality time. Then ate @ a pizza buffet Alvin liked
going to.
When arriving home, Alvin discovered that his
friends, sisters & mother set up an outdoor birthday
party. They threw a Super 16 party for Alvin (Sweet
16's for girls, Super 16's for boys).
During the party, a stranger arrives on a
tri-wheeled motorcycle. He got off & gets a clipboard
out.
     "Special delivery for Alvin Fenway."
"Not a motorcycle." groaned dad, "A deliver boy
did the same thing on a Hogan Family episode on NBC."
Alvin signed & the delivery boy gave him his
keys, a helmet & a birthday card. He opened the
birthday card & read,
"THE STREAK IS OVER, Happy Birthday Alvin! It's
your turn to finally have a cool birthday present.
Hope you enjoy this tri-wheeled motorcycle that's safe
to drive, but always wear your helmet. Hope your
sourpuss Dad let's you keep it. Love; Uncle Geoff &
Aunt Betty. PS: That Hogan Family episode was on
CBS, not NBC, you twit!"
"Cool!" yelled Alvin. Then he got on & drove it
around the neighborhood with Jake going along for the
ride.
When arriving home, Alvin got off & wanted to put
the bike in the garage. So he used the garage door
opener & was surprised to see,
"Awesome! My vibes! Cool gift, Dad."
     "Don't thank me, thank Sarah."
"Now we can start our band." said Jake, then he
introduced his 3 friends to Alvin, "Alvin, meet Chad,
Jordan & Doug. Chad plays bass, Jordan on keys &
Doug's the drummer. Together, we're North Main Street
Boys!"
"Backstreet Boys, only you play instruments!"
said Nancy.
     Frisky meows with approval.
For weeks, Alvin started hanging out with the
band. In the gym locker room, the five started
singing in the shower together. Jake also insisted
that Alvin plays rhythm guitar as well as the vibes.
Alvin had a green hollowed-bodied while Jake had a
flying V guitar. They played their favorite songs as
well as writing some original tunes. The boys even
did a photo shoot @ Handsome Shots posing with their
instruments doing individual & group pics.
The band got its 1st paying gig @ Ivory Coast
Mall's food court. Girls fell in love with the band's
sound. All the members wore headband mikes to sing
while playing. After a song, Jake said,
"You're listening to N. Main Street Boys. On
drums, Doug. Jordan on keys. Chad on bass. On
rhythm guitar & vibes, Alvin, & I'm Jake, lead
guitarist."
Alvin played the vibes & they did a hip-hop tune
singing together.
