Baby Puppy Matty by Larry J. Hall

At the Roman house, we find Lou, Liz & Scott in the living room, looking @ their family photo album. Matty went over to Buttercup & asked,

          "Don't I have a photo album?"

"Matty, dogs don't have photo albums. But I can tell you how you came to be."

So in a flashback, we visit Grandpa Dewey's Puppy Mill/Miniature Golf course. Grandpa Dewey raised dogs to sell to people or to give them to SPCAs or pet stores. He had a hired hand named Jeb & his wife's named Daisy.

Grandpa Dewey loved all his dogs. But he liked his prize-winning dog, Buttercup.

On a hot summer day, Buttercup was in her stable getting ready to have a litter of puppies. After hours of pain, she gave birth to five cute puppies. But suddenly, she also had a 6th puppy who came a little late.

The 6th puppy was the tiniest of the litter. He tried to get through his brothers & sisters to get some milk, but couldn't. Then he cried his first words,

"Baby puppy wants a nipple! Baby puppy needs to be fed!"

Buttercup was amazed that she had a very special puppy who could talk. But his brothers & sisters wouldn't let him get near mother dog.

Just then, Jeb saw the litter & cried,      "Dewey! Buttercup had 6 puppies!"

Grandpa Dewey came & looked @ her children. He saw the little one crying like a human.

"Better get rid of this one, he's going to be the runt." said Dewey, "Jeb, take him & gas him to death!"

Jeb grabbed the runt & as he did, Buttercup silently said,

"Take care, my little child." & she had tears coming from her eyes.

As Jeb was about to gas the runt, Grandma Daisy rushed out into the porch & saw the runt.

"Jeb, let me take care of this runt. I'm sure he's very special."

"I don't know, Miss Daisy." said Jeb, "Dewey wouldn't like it if you took another stray."

Grandma Daisy saw the little runt's face & was touched. So she went to the kitchen & prepared a baby bottle full of milk for him to drink.

After feeding, he looks up to her saying,     "Momma dog."

"Oh dear." she said startledly, "You're another Brian. I'm not your mother, but I'll be your grandma."

"Grandma, grandma, grandma!" said baby puppy.     Daisy treated Matty like a real human. But when Dewey found out, he was mad & fired Jeb from the puppy mill for disobeying him.

Weeks later, baby puppy started walking all around the farm house. He could walk on four legs like a dog & two legs like a human.

But Dewey was upset because Matty started having accidents on the floor.

"Maw, if you want to keep that baby puppy, toilet train him!"

          "I got an idea Paw."

Daisy got the puppy & had him wear some spare diapers they had. Matty liked his diapers.

During summer vacation, their grandchildren came over to visit them. They liked helping out Grandpa Dewey @ the mill as well as playing some miniature golf.

After playing golf, the kids would get some ice cream & snow cones. The little boy was rushing to get inside that he dropped some of his snow cone on the porch.

The little puppy saw that piece & started crunching on the snow cone.

"Baby puppy likes snow cones." he said.

So the little boy got 2 more snow cones, one for him & one for baby puppy.

The kids were watching Brotherly Love & the oldest girl was swooning over hearing Matthew Lawrence play the guitar & singing. The puppy started barking & said,

          "Baby puppy likes Matty!"

"You got that right!" sighed the girl.

When Grandma heard about this, she decided to name the puppy Matty. So later she got him a green collar & a name tag with "MATTY" on it.

It was near Christmas. Grandma Daisy told Matty he'd have to get a new home. Grandpa insists. Matty wanted to be with his Uncle Brian. So Grandma decided to give Matty over to Santa to find him a new home for him to live.           And that's when Matty met his Uncle Brian for the first time & had Scott as his master.

Matty hugged Buttercup for telling him that story. Then he went into the kitchen to get a snow cone. As he lapped & licked his treat, Scott came in & showed Matty that in the photo album, there are pictures of him with either Scott or Buttercup.
