JR & TWA Thanksgiving

by Larry J. Hall

Our story starts @ a Philadelphia sports bar where Danny Brown's taping his weekly football show. Besides talking football & the upcoming game, Danny still plays the electric guitar & sings with the house band.

That week, he had Joe Roman sit in with the band. Joe's in his football uniform while Danny's in regular clothes.

"Can you believe that my friend wears this when watching football?" told Danny to the fans, "A real true fan. Looking forward to our Thanksgiving game @ Dallas?"

          "Yeah." said Joe.

"How's TWA?" asked Danny, "Having a new album out?"

"Around the Christmas holidays." said Joe, "But we're also appearing as a side show act @ this year's Lazy's Thanksgiving Day Parade."

"Let's get to what we know best, play!" said Danny, "1-2-3-4!"

The band played a funky tune that featured Danny singing a little. After he sang, Danny played his guitar solo & then Joe had his guitar solo. After the song, Danny & Joe shake hands.

At the house of the Torgerson brothers, Ranny was in the living room watching Rock-TV while playing to the music on a set of drums they kept. The phone rang & Danny answered it. Then he goes over to Ranny, grabs his sticks saying,

"Do you mind? I'm on the phone."

"How do you want me to practice on the drums?" asked Ranny.

Danny hands him some brushes. Ranny didn't like playing with brushes much. Danny was back on the phone.

A few minutes later, Ranny was on the sofa flipping channels until Danny entered.

"That was Mom & Dad." said Danny, "They're coming over for Thanksgiving from Orlando. It would be nice if we tidy up the place."

          "Why?" asked Ranny.

Danny says, "We want to prove to Mom & Dad that we're very responsible. If they saw what this place was like, they'll probably wants us to get real jobs & quit the band. Just pick up in the living room & move those drums back in the den, is that asking too much?"

Ranny started & Danny even helped straighten the house for their parents visit. As they did, the tv showed a report of the upcoming Lazy's parade in Philadelphia. Ranny learned that Spider-Man & other Marvel heroes will appear from Orlando.

"Danny! Cody's coming over in his Spider-Man costume & appear @ the Lazy's parade."

"Get real, Ranny." said Danny, "It's probably going to be some employee dressed in that super hero outfit. Cody will probably head back to Lafayette to visit his parents."

At the Roman house, that same telecast was on their tv. After hearing about TWA, Matty learns that Brian the Dog will be honored with his own balloon float.

"Uncle Brian's going to be in the parade!" cheered Matty, "Maybe he'll let me be in it."

"Oh no," groaned Scott then scolding like Ricky Ricardo, "Matty, you're not going to be in the parade!"

Matty started crying like Lucy,      "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The phone rang & Lou answers it. She couldn't believe it was for Buttercup, but then realized it's Brian. Buttercup got the receiver saying,           "Is that you, brother?"

"Yeah." he said asking, "Is that Matty crying?"     "Of course."

"Scott gave him the 'I Love Lucy' treatment." quipped Brian, "Look, would you & Matty be interested in riding in the car with me @ the parade?"

"It would be a real treat." said Buttercup.

"I'll take that as a yes." said Brian, "Tell Matty or he'll probably come up with some crazy skim that will get him into trouble."

Just then, Joe Roman came home from the cleaners with his football uniform on a clothes hanger.

"Can't wait for the Thanksgiving Day game between Philly @ Dallas. Danny's going to perform on the pre-game show."

"Joe Roman," Lou said, "I suggest you tape that game. We're going to have company this Thanksgiving with your family & mine. And I want us to have dinner together."

Wednesday afternoon, we find Danny driving his convertible going to the airport to pick up the parents. After doing so, Mom & Dad are surprised to see Danny. But they wonder where's Ranny?

Mom & Dad were surprised that Danny now has a car when they were leaving the airport.

"Nice car." said Mom, "Gave up the motorcycle?"

"I still have it, but I like my car." said Danny, "But Ranny refuses to change. He's like a rebel or something."

When they arrived home, Ranny called Danny over. But he was nowhere to be found. Then he saw a note on the refrigerator saying that he's in the studio practicing. Danny tells his parents to relax while he fetches Ranny back.

When Danny arrived @ the studio, he was surprised to see that along with Ranny playing the tympani, Spider-Man was playing his set of drums.

"Ranny, what are you doing?" asked Danny.     "Having a jam session with Spidey!" said Ranny.     Danny told Ranny to get off the drums. Then he tells Spider-Man,

"Look, whoever you are. My brother thinks that our friend Cody will be in the parade. I know it's a Lazy's employee. Take off your mask."

Danny was startled when he took off the mask,     "Where were you Danny? I came by to visit."     "Cody Mitchell!"

"Yeah," he said, "I'm doing the Lazy's. But after the parade, I'm taking a plane to Lafayette, Indiana to visit my parents."

Danny takes Ranny home so they can visit with their parents.

Thanksgiving Day arrives & the Lazy's Parade is a bout to get underway @ downtown Philadelphia.

Buttercup & Matty were looking for Brian's car. Matty saw the big balloon float of Brian & was impressed.

"Wow! My Uncle Brian's sure famous!"

Just as they reached the car, police arrived telling those dogs there's no autographs today from Brian.

The dogs started woofing trying to get Brian's attention to get over here. The police wanted to take those dogs to the pound.

"Hold it!" said Brian, "They're with me! They're family."

"Yeah, and I suppose they talk as well." said the policeman.

"Little kid dog Matty loves his Uncle Brian!"     "And so does his sister, Buttercup."

The policeman had gone insane to hear two more talking dogs that he left to get some coffee & doughnuts. Brian invited his family to arrive in the car.

At the Lazy's area, TWA were performing a new tune that would be featured on their next CD. Fred played chimes while Ben played vibes, Ranny played drums with Danny on tympani as well as the others on their regular instruments.

The parade started around 10:00. And around 10:35, people got to see the new Brian the Dog float. Family Guy fans liked that float. They even saw Brian in a car waving to his fans along with Buttercup & Matty.

Around 4:30, the Roman family & their relatives along with the Davis family had Thanksgiving dinner. While they did, the phone rang & Lou answered it.

"Lou, can I talk to Joe?"

"Is that you Bart?" she asked, "Joe's not watching the football game until tonight."

"There's something I have to say," Bart tells her over the phone what happened. But she keeps it to herself.

That night around 8:00, Joe was in his football uniform in their bedroom getting ready to watch that game. Lou came in a sexy nightgown trying to get Joe's attention.

"Joe, why don't we make out in bed? I always wanted to have you wear that football uniform."

          "Grow up!" said Joe.

"Why do you have your guitar with you?"

"To play while I'm watching the game."

"You must like that guitar better than me."

"What's going on?" asked Joe, "Someone called about the football game, wasn't it."

"Yes, it was Bart." confessed Lou.

"What happen?" asked Joe, "Did Ham Lather pre-empted Danny's Thanksgiving tune with a ZBX News Special Report? The game postponed?"

"I don't think you want to know." said Lou.     So Joe watched the tape & saw that Danny did get to perform for Thanksgiving on the pre-game show. Then he saw the football game.

In the late stages of the 1st quarter, Philadelphia had the ball on Dallas' 40 yard line. Danny was about to pass until he got hit hard by the Dallas defense. Danny didn't get up, so paramedics came by to carry him on a stretcher & into an ambulance heading to the hopsital. Joe then knew what Lou was up to.

"I'm sorry Joe." said Lou, "Bart was terrified as well. I didn't want to ruin everyone's Thanksgiving dinner."

A few days later, Danny was back in Philadelphia after the Cowboy loss. Danny had a news conference & announced,

"I decided that my days as a football player will end. I'm retiring from the Eagles. As for my music career, I wanna join The White Angels."

The band watched that news conference & were shocked over Danny joining them.
