Our story starts @ Super Music store in Blue Bird
Mall. The White Angels were giving a benefit
performance program they wrote themselves for the
orphanage. In this program, the band wore super hero
outfits & called themselves The Super Band. The show
opened with a pop number as all The White Angels got
to sing,
"We have a special crusade the we cause to stand,
We fight to save the music, we're The Super
Band.
A super hero team we truly believe,
Playing music brings pure harmony."
The band played on as Frank spoke,
"I'm Trumpet Dude, leader of The Super Band. I
tell the band when to play & when to stop!" snaps
fingers & band stops.
"Meet my super friends! Woodwind Warrior (Bart),
Bass Dude (Jason), Captain Keyboard (Ralph), Vibes Man
(Ben), Percussion Boy (Eric) & Super Guitarist (Joe)!
Even though we're a pop band, we also have the 4 basic
sections of a symphony orchestra; strings, brass,
woodwind & percussion!"
The program continued as Woodwind Warrior played
a tenor sax solo. Then Trumpet Dude said,
"Strings are associated with violins. In this
band, we have 2 string heroes. First up, Bass Dude!"
Bass Dude popped a bass guitar solo to a funky
rap beat that kids enjoyed that.
"And now," proclaimed Trumpet Dude, "My best
friend, Super Guitarist!"
Super Guitarist played a cool electric guitar
solo. In the audience, his 5 year old son, Scott, was
watching him play.
"Cool guitar music!" said a kid next to him.
"That's my daddy!" exclaimed Scott.
"You're lucky to have a daddy who plays the
guitar." he said asking, "What's your name?"
"Scott, & yours?"
"Michael. I wish I had a daddy who could play
music." he wished.
When Super Guitarist finished he said,
"Here's the brass featuring my best friend,
Trumpet Dude!"
Trumpet Dude started playing a trumpet solo.
When he did, Michael told Scott that's his daddy
playing. Truth was, Michael's an orphan. After his
trumpet solo, he said,
"Last is the percussion. There are many
different types of percussion instruments. Mostly
associated is the drums."
Percussion Boy played a snare drum roll, followed
by a drum solo. When he finished, he said,
"There are tuned drums, I play the tympani for
power!"
Percussion Boy showed off by flexing his muscles,
then he played a powerful tympani solo.
"Keyboards are considered percussion because you
strike the keys with your fingers." said Trumpet Dude
as Captain Keyboard played an organ solo.
"There are also keyboard percussion that you
strike with mallets. Check this out!" said Vibes Man
as the band played a swing beat with him playing a
cool vibes solo.
Trumpet Dude ended with a speech.
"If you want to learn an instrument we play or a
different one, remember, it takes practice, lessons,
time & true dedication to play music like us."
The whole band said,
"MUSIC IS POWER!"
After the show, Scott went to a music studio to
see his daddy. But he didn't know Michael was
following him. Michael decided to hide from the rest
@ a studio. Just then, the door opened. Michael hid
because it might be a grown up. Frank entered the
studio as he sat down, relaxed & put down his trumpet.
"I sure hope the kids enjoyed this program." he
said. Michael couldn't believe he saw Frank. He
sneaked up to him saying,
"Daddy!"
"Look kid," he said tiresome, "I'm not even
married. Go away!"
Michael cried until Frank grabbed his trumpet &
played a song for him.
"Daddy plays good! I wanna be just like you." he
said. That melted Frank's heart. Just then, the door
opened as one of the chaperones from the orphanage
entered.
"There you are you little troublemaker!" she said
grabbing Michael's arm, "I'm sorry sir, Michael always
wants a musician to be his daddy, he especially likes
trumpets. Let's go!"
She took Michael's hand as he was crying fro
Frank. Joe was wondering what the commotion's about &
Frank told him just an adoring fan.
That night @ Frank's pad, we find him in bed
dreaming that he adopted that kid. His 1st dream;
Michael turned 10 years old. After Frank played
"Happy Birthday" on his trumpet & Michael blew out the
candles, Frank gave his son a small suitcase. He
opened the suitcase & saw a trumpet.
"Cool, Dad!" said Michael, "Thanks!"
"Remember son," instructed Frank, "You practice
every day & get good @ it, in a few years, you'll have
a white trumpet just like mine." Michael hugged him.
Then his 2nd dream, Joe & Frank saw their
teenaged sons playing in a band with a bassist,
drummer & vibes player. As Scott chunked guitar
chords, Michael played a terrific solo on his new
white trumpet. Then Michael stopped & held his
trumpet to one side as Scott played a super guitar
solo.
"That's our boys." said Frank & Joe.
Then Frank woke up & said,
"I'm gonna adopt that kid."
A few days later, the Roman Family & Frank were @
a park. Liz & Scott went to the playground while the
parents sat on a park bench.
"Joe, Lou," said Frank clearing his throat
asking, "How do you like having kids?"
"It's great, but sometimes painful." said Lou,
"Takes a lot of patience to raise a child."
"Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" asked
Joe.
"I think so." quipped Lou, "But we're not Pinky &
The Brain."
"Cut the comedy." ordered Frank, "I wanna adopt
Michael. The kid melted my heart whenever he calls me
daddy."
"It's not easy for a single parent to raise
kids." said Lou quipping, "Unless you're Fonzie or
Willona Woods."
"Will you go to the adoption center with me?" he
asked & they agreed.
At the Adoption Center, Frank had to fill out
some form for adoption. Afterwards, when he went to
buy something @ the cafeteria, Michael spotted him,
rushed over & hugged his legs crying,
"Daddy!"
Just then, Mr. Bonner, the head of the orphanage,
saw what happened.
"May I see you, Mr. Brandis?" asked Mr. Bonner as
he told Michael to let go of his legs.
At his office, Mr. Bonner looked @ his form.
"Mr. Brandis, no pun intended, let's be frank."
sat down as they laughed, "You play trumpet for a
living. I like your White Angels music, but do you
intend to support a kid with music?"
"Mr. Bonner." Frank explained, "I work @ a music
store as a clerk & trumpet teacher. Music's my life.
I'm happy with my life, no suit & tie 9-5 job, just a
tuxedo."
"Mr. Brandis, we want what's best for the kids!
You're nothing but a playboy, grow up! I can't
recommend this adoption."
Frank left disappointed & while they left,
Michael came up & said,
"Daddy!"
"Not anymore." sighed Frank walking off. Michael
cried again. Joe went back to have a long talk with
Mr. Bonner.
A few days later, we find Joe Roman jogging @ the
park. As he was jogging, he heard a weird horn sound.
Frank was sitting on a bench, playing a blues tune on
his trumpet, having a mute attached to the instrument,
causing the effect.
"Frank, it's not the end of the world." said Joe
going to him sitting down, stops playing.
"Joe, that kid's something special. He looks up
to me." cried Frank, "What business do they have to
know I'm a playboy. If I wanna be a musician, fine!"
Frank continued playing on his muted trumpet as
Joe jogged on. Then, Mr. Bonner spotted him.
"So you're a street musician!" he quipped as he
stopped playing.
"So what!" he yelled, "If I had Michael, I would
love him, help him. I'd teach him sports or anything
his heart desires, maybe even the trumpet! But I
guess the orphanage discourages musician parents."
"Mr. Brandis!" he yelled as he said calmly, "I
thought it over. Michael seems to be happy around
you. So I decided that you'll have Michael on a
temporary basis. We will check your progress for the
next few weeks & if it's going well, he's your son
legally!"
"Cool!" he yelled as Michael hugged his new
Daddy.
"I love you, Daddy!"
"Same here, Michael Brandis." said Frank. Then
he took the mute off his trumpet & played a cool
trumpet solo.
Frank & Michael visited the Romans & they were
happy for Frank & his new son, Michael. When Scott
played his baby electric guitar, Michael said,
"Give me a few years & I'll jam with you on
trumpet."
A new generation of musicians began.
